18 Dec Book review: Coach Your Team
Book Review Published on Training Journal
This book would be useful for anyone who wants to know what coaching is, why it matters, and how to coach effectively.
My first impressions of the book are mixed. While its credibility is enhanced by it being a Penguin Business Experts publication, its credibility is diminished by a lack of ‘sizzle’, with poor quality paper, no colour, graphics, pictures or diagrams.
However there is sizzle in the substance that comes from the book’s strengths. Hall provides a convincing business case for the value and benefits of coaching. She supports the reader to be able to implement workplace coaching; by chunking the book into relevant areas and by providing several activities in each area to enable practice of the requisite knowledge and skills.
Hall explains coaching concepts clearly, succinctly and in a way this is accessible to anyone
A great strength of the author is her ability to identify and distil the essential elements of coaching.
Hall explains coaching concepts clearly, succinctly and in a way this is accessible to anyone, whatever their prior coaching knowledge or experience. This brings the added advantage of the book being both easy and quick to read.
This is a book I will find beneficial to revisit regularly, to remind myself of coaching best practice and to use the effective, easy to understand and apply exercises that are relevant to all area of working life.
